LASG Lists 176 Illegal Estates, Gives 21-Day Ultimatum to Process Layout Approvals (See Full List)

Lagos State just released 176 list of Illegal Estates, Gives 21-Day ultimatum for these estates to process their layout approvals

Most of them are in Eti-Osa, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe axis.

These estates, deemed illegal due to their failure to obtain layout approvals from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, were listed in a document published by the Ministry on Monday.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Engr. Oluwole Sotire, the illegal estates compromised the sustainable development ethos and the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda of the Lagos State Government by operating without approved layouts.

The identified illegal estates include Adron Homes, Elerangbe; Aina Gold Estate, Okun-Folu; Diamond Estate, Eputu; Prime Water View Garden, Ikate Elegushi; and Royal View Estate, Ikota, among others.

The Permanent Secretary has given the owners of these estates 21 days to submit the necessary documents to his office in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, to process their layout approvals.

He stated that this exercise was a routine function of the Ministry, in line with its mandate to regulate the development of public and private estates in Lagos State by processing and granting layout approvals to foster a functional, organised, orderly, and resilient smart city, as encapsulated in the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda of the Lagos State Government.

He also emphasised the importance of all developers and real estate practitioners registering with the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA), which is responsible for regulating, coordinating, and monitoring real estate practitioners in the sector.

PRESS RELEASE - NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE URGES TRAVELLERS ON RESPONSIBLE USE OF U.S. VISAS

1. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to alert the general public to the concerns raised by the Government of the United States of America on the need for Nigerians to desist from misusing entry visas granted by the US through activities that are inconsistent with the stated purpose of travel and visa classification. 2. Nigerians are urged to note that security vetting for visa applicants does not end upon entry into the United States. U.S. authorities will continuously monitor the activities of visa holders, and visas can be revoked if holders are found to have violated US immigration protocols, import/export guidelines and other laws. 3. Furthermore, Nigerians travelling to the US are also reminded to declare at the point of exit or entry excess cash above the minimum threshold of 10,000 US dollars or its equivalent and ensure that prohibited items are not included in their baggage. 4. It is pertinent to also note that passengers are encouraged to be law abiding citizens and be of good conduct within and outside Nigeria. Intending passengers to the United States should know that whoever commits fraud in any jurisdiction will face legal consequences both under U.S. and Nigerian laws. 5. The Nigeria Customs Service wishes to reaffirm that it is working with the U.S. Mission in Abuja to ensure that Nigeria meets the criteria to avoid enlistment into an expanded visa ban that will deny entry to well-meaning Nigerians wishing to travel to the US for their lawful business endeavours. Cybersecurity: Why your Android should not connect to Wi-Fi automatically

The world of smartphones is full of automation and requires reputable Android protection.

Most smartphone users probably know that connecting to any random Wi-Fi hotspot available is not the best idea. But sometimes, an Android device can autonomously connect to a malicious Wi-Fi network without your awareness.

Imagine that you are at your favorite restaurant, your order is complete, and now you want to check your smartphone before the meal comes. However, without your knowledge, someone else is already monitoring everything you do on your device, including the websites you browse, the applications you use, and the credentials you enter.

Dangers of comfort zones

When creating software, developers always think about usability, user comfort, and user experience. So, it’s only natural that smartphones have an incorporated function to reconnect automatically to previously used and trusted networks.

However, cybercriminals love to exploit situations in which users feel safe and enjoy ever-present automation. The attack displayed by Lukáš Štefanko does the same — this technique preys on the fact that Android smartphones constantly and transparently tell nearby devices which Wi-Fi networks they have connected to, and want to reconnect to, automatically.

Luckily, attacks that require the malicious actor to be physically present at the location aren’t common, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t happen. For example, Australia’s Federal Police (AFP) charged one of its citizens over an alleged evil twin attack on multiple domestic flights and airports in June 2024. His seized devices allegedly contained dozens of stolen personal credentials.

Other times, it can be a state-sponsored operation such as the plot of a UK-based spy ring, as described by a prosecutor during a recent trial. The spy ring, among other things, also operated in Germany, where its members allegedly used an International Mobile Subscriber Identity Catcher or IMSI catcher to intercept mobile phone traffic from a military base where Ukrainian soldiers were training.

Other threats

As you can see, connecting and reconnecting to publicly available Wi-Fi networks can pose a danger. And the list of possible threats doesn’t end with rogue hotspots:

Man-In-The-Middle (MITM) attack — In such attacks, cybercriminals intercept communications between a device and the Wi-Fi network, allowing them to access sensitive unencrypted information like passwords, credit card numbers, and personal messages.

Exploitation of vulnerabilities — Cybercriminals can exploit vulnerabilities in less-secure public networks, or vulnerabilities of a targeted mobile device (especially if it doesn’t have updated software), to distribute malware to connected devices. This malware can then be used to steal data, monitor users’ activities, or even take control of users’ devices.

Packet Sniffing — Public Wi-Fi networks often lack proper encryption, making it easier for hackers to eavesdrop on users’ online activities.

How to stay safe

Obviously, the basic security recommendation for Wi-Fi users is to disable automatic connections to Wi-Fi networks, and not use free publicly accessible Wi-Fi networks at all. If this is not possible for any reason, here are a few more tips:

Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) —VPN creates a secure and encrypted connection between a user’s device and the internet.

Do not share sensitive data — Avoid websites and applications requesting sensitive information such as online banking or shopping sites while on public Wi-Fi.

Stay on top of updates — Keep your software and apps updated. Regular updates often include security patches that protect against known vulnerabilities.

Indiscriminate Parking: LASPA Begins Enforcement Within State Secretariat, Alausa (See Photos)

INDISCRIMINATE PARKING: LASPA BEGINS ENFORCEMENT WITHIN STATE SECRETARIAT, ALAUSA

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), on Monday, started the enforcement of indiscriminate parking within the State Secretariat, Alausa, as part of efforts to rid it of all forms of traffic congestion.

The Monitoring and Enforcement Team of LASPA stormed the Secretariat and issued removal notices on vehicles wrongly parked on the kerbs, walkways, double parking and areas with the No parking signages.

The State Parking Authority also observed that some vehicle owners who are not officials of the State Government, but have their offices around the State Secretariat in Alausa, usually make use of the Secretariat for parking, thereby overstretching the facility.

The enforcement team of LASPA issued a 24-hour ultimatum to owners of the vehicles violating the State Parking Regulations to either evacuate them or have their vehicles towed away.

Recall that the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, during the July Monthly Walk for Fitness Exercise, organised by the Office of the Head of Service enjoined LASPA to start the enforcement of indiscriminate parking within the State Secretariat in Ikeja and the Old Secretariat before extending it to other parts of the State.

LASPA, therefore, urged all Lagos residents to comply with the State Parking Regulations by imbibing a model parking culture which includes: obeying parking signs and avoiding traffic obstruction, noting that enforcement on indiscriminate parking of vehicles in the State has started.
