The Great Ife Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has condemned the recently approved dress code by the university’s Governing Council, describing it as an infringement on students’ fundamental rights.

Obafemi Awolowo University has introduced a new dress code policy for students, setting clear guidelines on what’s acceptable attire within the campus. The rules, which target indecent dressing and aim to promote discipline and modesty, sparked mixed reactions from the student body.

While some applaud the move as a step toward restoring decorum, others see it as unnecessary control over personal expression. Items reportedly banned include revealing outfits, sagging trousers, and certain hairstyles deemed inappropriate.

As the new policy rolls out, students are left adjusting their wardrobes and voicing their opinions.
