Lagos Police to Conduct IED Simulation Exercise at Eko Atlantic City, Residents Urged to Stay Calm (Read Press Statement)


Lagos State Police Command has announced that its Explosives Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit will on Thursday, August 28, 2025, conduct an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) simulation exercise at Eko Atlantic City.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the exercise is part of efforts to boost the preparedness and response capacity of police operatives in the event of a bomb-related emergency.

The Command noted that the drill will involve controlled detonations handled by specialized units trained in managing explosive devices and related threats.

“Blast sounds will be heard during the exercise, but there will be no shrapnel or associated danger. Residents, workers, and visitors in and around the Eko Atlantic City area are therefore advised to remain calm and not panic,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured Lagosians that adequate safety measures have been put in place to ensure the simulation poses no risk to lives or property. He further appealed for the cooperation and understanding of the public throughout the exercise.

The Command reiterated its commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of residents, stressing that such simulations are crucial to strengthening emergency response systems in the state.

The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that the Nigeria Police Force Explosives Ordnance Disposal - Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit will be conducting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) simulation exercise at the Eko Atlantic City on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

This exercise is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the preparedness and response capabilities of the Police in the event of any bomb-related emergency. It will involve controlled detonations by specialized units trained to handle explosive devices and related threats.

Members of the public are hereby notified that blast sounds will be heard during the exercise, but there will be no shrapnel or associated danger. Residents, workers, and visitors in and around the Eko Atlantic City area are therefore advised to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and not to panic when they hear the sounds.

The Command reassures Lagosians that adequate safety measures have been put in place to ensure the exercise is carried out without risk to lives or property.
